For the third year, Movie Night in the Park, a Ward 8 community event that brings together families, local organizations and city officials to learn about their neighbourhood, was held June 20.
“We were crossing our fingers the whole time,” said Coun. Terry Whitehead, who was concerned about the troubling weather forecast. “The clouds looked ugly. But there seemed to be a hand that kept the bad weather away.”
The Ward 8 Community Council has organized this event each year in a different park within the ward for the enjoyment of families. The audience “overwhelmingly” chose the popular animated film ‘Monsters vs Aliens’, over ‘Madagascar 2’ and ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ to view, said Whitehead.
Before the film began, residents saw a slide show on Gourley Park, organized by the Mountain Heritage Society. Whitehead said no taxpayers’ dollars were spent on the event, with local businesses, including Effort Trust, providing resources.
