Fr. Kennedy bursary
Tamara Fernandes, religion head at St. Jean de Brebeuf Catholic Secondary School, was honoured recently with the Father Kyran D. Kennedy Bursary. The endowment, which was established in 2002 to mark and celebrate Fr. Kennedy’s 50th anniversary of ordination into the priesthood, is awarded annually to a secondary teacher in pursuit of religious studies. Fr. Kennedy (second from right) has been a leader in education in the Hamilton community, serving as a trustee with the Hamilton Catholic school board since 1968, seven of those years as board chair. “The bursary is an appropriate tribute to Fr. Kennedyís lifelong commitment to Catholic education,” said Catholic board chair Patrick J. Daly (right), noting that this is the first time that a candidate has come forward.
