Hamilton Cops and Kids Go Fishin'
News
May 09, 2008

With the days getting sunnier, what better way to take advantage of the warm rays, than a fishing derby?

On Saturday, May 10 children and their families can test their luck on Safari Lake.

Hosted by The Optimist Club of Strabane, the Safari Lake Annual Fishing Derby will be held from 9 am to noon at 711 Safari Road in Millgrove. Registration will take place Saturday morning. There is a fee of $10 per family which includes lunch and prizes for the young anglers. Members from the Hamilton Police Service will be in attendance. Participants are asked to bring their own fishing gear.

The Safari Lake Annual Fishing Derby is supported by The Optimist Club of Strabane, Fishing Forever, Kids Cops and Canadian Tire Fishing Days, The Hamilton Police Service, PAO and Canadian Tire.

"Police officers spend their entire careers teaching and protecting our children," said Bob Izumi, host of Real Fishing and spokesperson for Fishing Forever. "The Flamborough event is a fun way for kids to get to know these dedicated men and women and at the same time experience the joy of recreational fishing."

Mr. Izumi's late father Joe enjoyed introducing children to fishing and, as a result, Bob has taken up the cause of using recreational fishing as a way to bring families closer and teach important life lessons to children.
