Four on four hockey league set to hit the ice

Another season of four-on-four pro hockey league action gets underway at the Mohawk 4 Pad Arena May 22.

This season the league has expanded to 10 teams and many pro and college hockey stars from the Hamilton area will be competing.

Three-time defending champion New England Homes Bruins will be once again led by former Boston Bruin player and Italian league star Paul Beraldo. The Bruins line-up also includes AHL players Joey Tentute of the San Antonio Rampage and former Kilty Josh Soares of the Peoria Rivermen.

Last season's runner-up Arby's Beef and Chedders are back with Jon Jankus of Corpus Christi in Central Hockey League, while 2008 Allan Cup winners Ryan Healy and Steve Hurst from the Brantford Blast have been added to the roster.

The Koi/Sizzle Kings featuring former pro-hockey standout Matt Turek and Montreal Canadiens draft pick and Japan National player Ryan Kuwabara will lead the charge and Kitchener Rangers coach Troy Smith will patrol the defence.

Docherty Stars will feature NHL player Brian McGratton of the Ottawa Senators while former Sudbury Wolves forward Scott Smith and smooth skating Graham Sutherland round out the team.

Burger's Boyz Blazers will be led by former Kilty and two-time MVP Mike Burgoyne of the Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League. Brendon Brooks who spent time in the American Hockey League and most recently Europe is a new addition to the roster. Former Hamilton Kilty netminder Steve McFarlene will shoulder the goaltending duties for the squad.

Team Bieska is a new entry this season, led by Vancouver Canuck Kevin Bieska along with Jason Chafe of the CHL and former Niagara University Purple Eagle Chris Sebastian.

The Mountain Toads have brought back some familiar faces with ECHL player T.J. Sakaluk and former Hamilton Red Wing captain Cory Stringer. The Toads have strengthen the line-up with Mark Jooris of the Dundas real McCoys.

The Young Guns are back with OHL products Justin Wallingford of Kingston Frontenac's and Mike McGurk from the Mississauga Majors. Hamilton Red Wings' grad Peter Leblanc, a Chicago Blackhawks prospect and University of New Hampshire forward, will carry the offence.

The Kenesky Kids are a sign of the leagues youth movement, featuring young players Drew Schiestel of the Niagara Ice Dogs, NCAA bound David Vallorani and Spencer Abbott, another Hamilton Red Wings' grad.

Looking at the Heads Up Misfits, the club will rely on Queens University product Jared Thomson and Hamilton Red Wings players Andrew Randazzo and Jeremy Goodwin.
