
The first place Toronto Maple Leafs are slated to roll into Bernie Arbour Stadium tonight (May 16) for a 7:30 contest with the Hamilton Thunderbirds. A win by the homeside would give the T-Birds their second win of the season.
Hamilton visits Oshawa tomorrow afternoon and then returns to their home field on Sunday for a 2 p.m. game with Barrie. The Thunderbirds are scheduled to visit Toronto May 21.
At Bernie Arbour Stadium May 11, the Thunderbirds scored six times in the bottom of ninth to defeat the London Majors 7-6 and record their first win of the Intercounty Baseball League season.
Jarrod Wehri and Dan Marshall each had two hits and two RBI for Hamilton while R.J. Lambert added two hits. Bill Lawrence picked up the win allowing only two hits in two innings in relief of Dariel Saucedo who went seven innings, giving up five hits and eight walks with one strikeout.
Jeff Nunes was the loser (0-1) allowing two hits in relief of Rick Ross who gave up four hits over two-thirds of an inning. Mike Mitro started and went six innings followed by Ted Kalnins who pitched two innings.
In Brantford May 10, Josh McCurdy and Al Stephens each had two hits including a home run to pace the Red Sox to an 8-2 win over the Thunderbirds.
Stephens had three RBI and while McCurdy added two RBI. Tyler Burnell also had two hits.
Winning pitcher Brad Hogeterp (1-0) allowed only one earned run and five hits in six innings. He struck out seven before being relieved by Scott Robinson, Adam Vella and Marc-Andre Major who each worked an inning.
Kevin Whyte (0-1) was the losing pitcher, going five and one-third innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits and six walks. Richard Wright had a solo home run and Matt Bekar added two hits for Hamilton.
