Re: Support pours in for Smith
family, July 11
I received a hand-written note from a young man while I was visiting Bill, Sandra and Kaylee Smith at the funeral home. The young man introduced himself as Sandra's brother. On behalf of the Smith family and Sandra's parents' family, he said they wished to thank everyone who showed support and sympathy to the family. He asked me to forward this information to the Mountain News. His note reads as follows:
"We would like to thank everyone who helped at the scene of the accident, state troopers in Wytheville, Salem Baptist Hospital staff and all the people in Salem, North Carolina who were so kind and generous. We would also like to thank the Turkstra Lumber family, the HSR transit family, the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Canadian Council, ATU international offices and all the ATU Locals throughout North America, and our newly adopted Hamilton-Wentworth family for their overwhelming support in our time of need. Please respect our wishes to mourn in private with our friends and family.
Respectfully,
Jack, Jane, Ken, Rob, Madison and Genna"
Budh S. Dhillon, Local 107 president Amalgamated Transit Union
