Perfect weekend for Ironmen

All three Hamilton Ironmen football squads wrap up regular season action against Guelph at Sackville Hill Park tomorrow (July 19). The pee wee squad kicks off at 10 a.m. followed by the juniors at 1:30 p.m. and the varsity game is at 5 p.m.

At the Rocky DiPietro Field in Sault Ste. Marie July 12, running back Dan Cialini (Cardinal Newman) rambled for 106 yards and 2 touchdowns. Mohawk's Mike Chase threw for 282 yards hitting receiver Malcom Paul (Cathedral) with a 68 yard touchdown late in the third quarter to give the Ironmen a 28-21 win. Defense was lead by Anothony Bak (Delta) with 6 tackles and 2 sacks, McMasters's Thomas Klinger with 8 tackles and a sack , Marcus Mayall (Barton) 6 tackles, and Glendale's Grant Ladniak with 1 sack and six tackles.

In junior action at Chatham on Sunday July 13, the Ironmen beat the Chatham Cougars 30-7 lead by a strong performance from Mason Logue (Delta) who rushed for 113 yards and 1 td. Jesse Verna (St Thomas More) had 49 yards rushing with 1 td, while Curtis Pryce (Cardinal Newman) helped with the ground attack carrying 2 times for 48 yards and a td and 3 catches for 45 yards and a td. Defense was strong with Jake Sazio (Westdale) having 13 tackles and a sack, Steve Pieterse (Hillpark) 11 tackles, Justin Mccarthy (Sherwood) 6 tackles and a sack.

Pee wee action saw Hamilton Ironmen beat the Chatham Cougars 33-7 in Chatham on Sunday July 13. In Peewee action the Ironmen beat Chatham Lions 33-7. Dominic Bellardini (Bishop Tonnos) lead the team with 10 tackles. Defensive tackle Mark Fidani (Bishop Tonnos) picked up 7 tackles including a game changing fumble recovery that he returned 55 yards for a TD. Mark Gibbon (Bishop Tonnos) had 6 tackles and 1 sack.
