Over $5 million is coming for five Mountain recreation facilities.

The money is part of $10.5 million the federal and provincial governments announced today for 12 recreation projects in Hamilton.

The city will receive $1.1 million each for floor replacement at Chedoke Twin Pad arena, Turner Park Sports Field lighting and washroom facility, and Inch Park arena retrofit, while $1.3 million is designated for Inch Park pool retrofit and the Hamilton Region Conservation Authority's East Mountain trail and public washroom project will receive $ 609,680.

Mountain MPP Sophia Aggelonitis and Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale MP Ted McMeekin made the announcement this morning in Waterdown.

The province notes in a press release the programs were designed to provide a timely, targetted stimulus to the economy through investments that will spur construction activity related to existing recreational infrastructure. Projects were selected on the basis of merit and construction readiness.

"I am thrilled that both governments have invested significantly in Hamilton's recreation infrastructure," said Sophia Aggelonitis, MPP for Hamilton Mountain. "This funding will establish safe and accessible community hubs for Hamiltonians, while creating several jobs in our city."
