Make it five straight Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association field hockey championships for the Sherwood Saints.
After winning their fifth consecutive Hamilton public school championship last week the Saints raised their game a notch and blanked Grimsby 3-0 and Hagersville 4-0 in the SOSSA championship in St. Catharines on Wednesday.
“I think they were our two best games of the season,” said Janet French, one of the Saints’ coaches. “Everybody played well and we got everyone into the games.”
Kirsten McConachie, who has been a star on the pitch this season, scored all three Sherwood goals against Grimsby.
McConachie, along with Lindsay Fletcher, Stephanie Shore and Courtney Nelligan scored the goals against Hagersville.
Emily Shore picked up the shutout in both games.
French said due to the rain some large mud puddles formed in front of the net at both ends of the field and she and co-coach Jackie Brown worked to rake away the water before each game.
The Saints now move on to the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association championships Nov. 5-7 in Kitchener.
