
The public can see Their Royal Highnesses arrive at the castle that morning, and the planned arrival time will be officially announced next week. Following a private tour, the Royal Couple is scheduled to plant an oak tree on the grounds in front of the castle, and the public will be able to observe that ceremony. The first 2,000 people in attendance will receive a special commemorative ribbon to wear to welcome the Royal Couple.
In honour of the Royal Visit, the public is also invited to experience the castle in the afternoon, just as Their Royal Highnesses enjoyed it earlier that day.
Tickets to tour the castle immediately following the Royal Visit can be purchased in advance by visiting www.hamilton.ca/dundurn or by calling 905-546-2872. The cost is $5 per person for ages three and up, and children two and under are free. Tickets can be purchased day of, but the public is encouraged to buy in advance to avoid disappointment.
Ten tour times are available to choose from between 1:00 - 4:00 p.m., and each tour will be limited to 18 people. Guests are asked to arrive ten minutes prior to their tour time. Visitors are advised that parking in Dundurn's main lot on the day of the visit will not be available prior to 1:00 p.m.
Dundurn Castle, located at 610 York Blvd. in Hamilton, is the former home of Sir Allan Napier MacNab, one of Canada's first premiers and the great-great-great grandfather of The Duchess of Cornwall. The castle is part of Dundurn National Historic Site, which also includes the Castle Shop, the Kitchen Garden and the Hamilton Military Museum.
