Hamilton police say a prisoner who was freed by two armed and masked men while being escorted out of hospital by jail guards on Tuesday is back in custody.
Police say Fawad Ahmed Nouri, 25, was arrested near a plaza at Upper Ottawa and Stone Church around 6 p.m. Friday.
Half a dozen police cruisers attended after a report of a bizarre-looking young man walking east on Stone Church Road East, just past Upper Gage Avenue.
Officer Scott Woods responded to a report of a suspicious person and spotted a man with a hoodie and partially covered face, police said.
The person ran and Woods chased him for several blocks until the person stopped and raised his arms, said Hamilton police spokesman Sgt. Terri-Lynn Collings in a media release Friday night.
A replica handgun and handcuffs were seized, Collings said.
Nouri is to appear in court on Saturday on a charge of escaping custody.
On Friday, police also arrested Didar Kader, 19, and charged him with aiding at escape from lawful custody.
Police also arrested a suspected accomplice at a Hamilton home and recovered a car believed to have been used in the getaway. Shaddy Milhim, 19, of Hamilton is being held on a charge of aiding in an escape from lawful custody.
Police have not said what roles Kader and Milhim are alleged to have played in the escape, saying that information could compromise the investigation.
Nouri was at the hospital to be treated for a bullet wound suffered earlier this year, police said.
He had been at a detention centre awaiting trial on numerous charges, including armed robbery and forcible confinement stemming from a Rymal Road Tim Hortons robbery in January.
