Several hundred more jobs are being cut by Hamilton employers.
Last week, Hamilton Health Sciences and U. S. Steel announced they would be laying off staff.
Hamilton Health Sciences is cutting 485 jobs as it tries to get its $37.5 million budget deficit under control.
U. S. Steel plans to temporarily lay off 175 employees during an extended shutdown of its blast furnace.
ArcelorMittal Dofasco also announced last week it would stop operations for two weeks at Christmas, forcing staff to use vacation time during that period or take unpaid leave.
