Dear editor,

My name is Maegan Rout. I'm 11 years old, I go to Hellen Detwiler School. I am concerned about our environment.

The reason I am writing this letter is that on Friday, May 2, I was on my way to Mud Street with my mom and I noticed that it was blocked off due to a car accident. Hamilton Police were there guarding the street and they had road flares to light up the road. Upon returning to the scene two days later (May 4) I was surprised to find that the police, who by law can fine people for littering, had littered themselves. Road flares that had been used were tossed to the side of the road.

From a very young age we are taught to take care of our environment and that police are good people. And we are to look up to them. Why are police not being responsible for there garbage or taking care of their environment. Me and my mother took the time to go to Mud Street and clean up for those who are not worried about our earth; those who are not motivated enough to simply put their garbage in the correct place.

I know this seems strongly worded but I feel it needs to be said for all the children because it is our future.
