Last week’s Hot Topic question of the week was: Did Cineplex Entertainment make a bad decision by closing the Upper James St. multiplex?

Cineplex theatre on Upper James Street is an essential draw for people not keen on driving to Stoney Creek, Burlington or Silver City to take in a movie. Parking is superb and the facilities are upscale. Cineplex’s big problem is that it is practically invisible to people driving by on Upper James. A large illuminated neon sign with rotating coloured lights around its circumference, placed strategically curbside would heighten the shows appeal and accessibility. Even if you know its rough location, it is still hard to find on “gasoline alley.”

Closing the Upper James cinema was unfortunate. It leaves residents on the south central Mountain who don’t own a car little opportunity to go and see a movie. Walking to Concession Street, upper Stoney Creek or Ancaster is more than my little feet can handle and taking the bus is simply not practical. And since most of what’s on television these days is mind numbingly awful I guess I have no alternative but to renew my library card.

After seeing the way Hollywood behaved at the Golden Globes, I'm not sure I want to support them anymore anyway.
