I recently had the honour of being asked to join cabinet as the Minister of Consumer Services.
I follow my good friend, mentor and colleague, MPP Ted McMeekin, who is a tireless and passionate advocate for our city. He has a strong track record of delivering for Ha m i l t o n and together we will continue to champion the interests of our city at Queen’s Park.
In the meantime, we have been busy on Hamilton Mountain. From meeting with constituents to participating in community events, I continue to be impressed and excited by our strong spirit, work ethic and commitment to making Hamilton Mountain the greatest community it can be.
For example, I recently had the opportunity to join my friends, neighbours and fellow Hamiltonians at the Walk for Memories to support our local Alzheimer’s Society. From events supporting our neighbours at SISO to those abroad in Haiti, we are as dedicated as ever to building a stronger city.
In addition to supporting our community projects and events, the new year provides us with an opportunity to review our community’s priorities.
In 2009, we saw an important investment in the Inch Park arena and pool, a significant upgrade of the Fennell Campus at Mohawk College and the continued improvement of health-care infrastructure on the Mountain.
Looking to 2010, this year holds similar challenges and opportunities. From rapid transit to water/wastewater treatment upgrades to preparing for the 2015 Pan Am Games, we are reminded that there is more to be done. However, if last year was any indication, we are up for the task.
Although we continue to face economic challenges both on the Mountain and throughout the province, I have never been more optimistic or excited about our community. In the meantime, I look forward to continuing to work with all of you to build a strong home for us on Hamilton Mountain.
