Fix roads, encourage healthy commute
Letters

I have recently started to commute to work with my bike. West 5th and Upper James Street are the pits to cycle on, let alone drive a vehicle on. Then there’s the bike lane comes to end in the middle of a road, leaving cyclists to ride dangerously on a road along side of vehicles.
Heading down the Mountain, I cycle on the shoulder path, as it is too dangerous to cycle in a lane.
I used to be an avid cyclist in Mississauga and cycled 35.8 kilometres a day. I cannot imagine cycling on some of Hamilton's roads on a daily basis.
Commuting to work by bike is one way to help the environment. Use the vehicle less and help the world use less gasoline. Cycling is healthier for you and keeps you fit. I have been away from it for three years, but recently have started to get back into it.
Is there a way that the City of Hamilton could improve on the condition of the roads — to make it safe for cyclists and auto drivers from ruining their vehicles? Let’s get healthy and commute to work!
