Hamilton police say they believe the same knife-wielding thief is responsible for weekend robberies at two Mountain variety stores within little more than an hour.
Sergeant Terri Collings said a masked bandit stole money, cigarettes and cigarette lighters after threatening a male clerk at Scenic Convenience store at about 8:20 p.m. on Sunday.
He then got into a waiting pickup truck, which fled east on Scenic Drive.
At 9:30 p.m., someone fitting the same description waved a knife while also stealing money, cigarettes and lighters from the Rockland Variety store on Rymal Road East.
He apparently fled on foot.
Sgt. Collings said although a black mask covered the culprit's entire head, he is believed to be young.
He was wearing grey gloves and a grey coat, and had a nylon backpack. The BEAR unit is investigating.
