Health care shouldn't be tied to paycheque

Re: Ontario docs sell health insurance, July 18

I must say that Mr. Gaudet's article has raised my blood pressure quite a bit.

Once again it seems that the 'haves' are making a case for preferential treatment in our health care system over the "'have-nots' simply by virtue of the fact that they carry a higher disposable income.

Health care is an inalienable human right and should be guaranteed to all Ontarians regardless of their status in society or size of their paycheque.

We are running down a slippery slope by even intimating that those with more disposable income should be able to buy private insurance for better services. These services should be provided to all equally.

Valuing someone's life or health over another's by virtue of the fact that they are more wealthy is disgusting. Is our health care system perfect? No. Should we put pressure on our government to be held accountable for the services they provide? Yes.

Changes are being made and the system is improving. When I need services, I receive them. And I wait my turn, with the understanding that others with more critical health issues will receive services first.

I would be appalled to discover that I had to wait simply because my health care options were up for auction with the best care going to the highest bidder.
