There was a mistake in a letter to the editor entitled 'Lines are redrawn in modern wars', published August 1.

Part of a paragraph in the letter was left out. The paragraph should have read:

"Let's face it, quite apart from the fact that the entire operation ('Enduring Freedom') is a total croc, [it is also] completely illegal (not sanctioned by the UN) and a transparent pretext for imperial / colonial expansionism."

The News apologizes for the error.
