The Hamilton Red Wings were looking to even up their best-of-seven OJHL central division playoff series at two in Newmarket Thursday night.

The results were not available at press time, but a win by Newmarket would give the Hurricanes a commanding 3-1 lead in the series and a chance to eliminate Hamilton in game five on Saturday night at the Dave Andreychuk-Mountain Arena.

A win by the Red Wings last night would extend the series at least to game six in Newmarket on Sunday.

Game seven, if necessary, will be played in Hamilton on Monday.

In Newmarket Tuesday night, Joel Hanley’s powerplay goal at the 12:29 mark of the third period proved to be the winner as the Hurricanes edged the Red Wings 3-2 in game three of the series to take a 2-1 series lead. Kevin Balas and Chad Sumsion scored the other Newmarket goals. Anthony Ruberto and Nathan Pageau scored for Hamilton. Rob Behling made 31 saves in the Red Wings net and Jason Guy stopped 38 shots in the Hurricanes’ goal.

At the Dave Andreychuk-Mountain Arena on Monday, the Red Wings scored four unanswered goals in the third period en route to a 6-3 win over Newmarket in game two.

Tim Revell, Brent McGrail, Cody Wilson, Zach Hyman, Mike Ball and Anthony Ruberto scored for the Red Wings. Chad Sumison, Brandon Greenside and Andrew Buck scored for the Hurricanes. Rob Behling stopped 27 shots in the Hamilton net and Jason Guy made 20 saves for Newmarket.

At the Dave Andreychuk-Mountain Arena last Saturday, the Hurricanes exploded for six second period goals, four of them in a span of less than two minutes, in a 7-2 win over the Red Wings.

Jamie Wise scored three goals for Newmarket, while Brandon Greenside, Joel Hanley, Daniel Cobb and Chad Sumison scored one goal each. Joey Diamond and Zach Hyman scored for Hamilton.

Dillon Branco, who started the game in goal for Hamilton made 15 saves on 20 shots. Rob Behling, who replaced Branco in the second period, made 11 saves on 13 shots. Jason Guy made 29 saves in the Newmarket goal.
